Hey, y’all! How was your weekend? We spent most of Saturday at the pool soaking up the amazing weather! Then, we ended up grilling out with some friends both Saturday and Sunday evenings. It was a perfect tease to what this summer is going to be like! Depending on where you live, you might already be feeling the “summer-like” weather. Here in Raleigh, it is definitely feeling like summer! Most of this past weekend was in the 80s or 90s during the day, then it would cool down a little bit in the evenings. I love this weather, and it’s really getting me in the summer mood! Which is actually convenient since this is our last week of school! *insert jumping up and down cheering* Summer doesn’t officially start until late in June – Wednesday, June 21 is what Google tells me. But, it’s never too early to start planning your summer activities!
Today, I’m sharing with y’all 10 things you should make sure to do this summer! A lot of them can be done without any major advanced planning! Regardless of where you live or what you like to do, these 10 activities are sure to help you have a great summer!
Have a bonfire and eat s’mores
I don’t know about you, but I love a good s’more! If you’ve never had a s’more before or don’t know what it is, your life is about to be changed! This is one of my absolute favorite things to eat in the summertime! I love them so much, that I even used to make them in the microwave! Of course, you can always make pizza pies or hot dogs on the fire too, but a good s’more can’t be beat!
Okay, so my first two things have to deal with food. Which if you know me, then you know how much I love making and eating food outside whenever I can! I love a good excuse to get a group of friends together and make some food! We did this twice last weekend, and it is one of my favorite things to do when it’s nice outside (other than eat my weight in s’mores)!
Watch the sun set
Cheesy, I know, right? But, there’s no better feeling than sitting outside on an evening and watching the sun set. Bonus points if you have a night clear enough to see the stars when it finally gets dark! Even if you’re by yourself. It makes you feel so relaxed and calm. I love doing this!
See an outdoor concert
This one may take some advanced planning, but it would totally be worth it! If you’ve never watched a concert at an outdoor venue, definitely put it on your list! It gives it a totally different feeling. A lot of cities will have free outdoor concerts, too! Just make sure to look it up in advance! When my boyfriend lived in Indianapolis, we always used to get a country mega ticket which gave us tickets to 10 different country concerts throughout the summer – all outdoors! It was one of the things I looked forward to the most in the summer!
Eat ice cream
I promise this is the last food-related activity! ha, you’re getting to know me so well! Nothing is better than some tasty ice cream on a hot day! I know I am going to be missing my favorite ice cream this summer since I moved from Columbus. Jeni’s ice cream became my obsession while I lived in Ohio. Luckily, I can still get it shipped here if I’m really craving it! Nothing tastes better than ice cream on a hot, summer day.
Summer is probably one of the times that people like to travel the most! A lot of people go to lakes and beaches, but traveling anywhere can make you feel refreshed! It can even be something as simple as a staycation in your city or visiting friends or family a few hours away. Regardless, taking some time to get away is always important!
Go to a pool
This one may be a little more obvious, but spending as much time as possible on the water is obviously ideal during the summer! My parents had a pool while we were growing up, so our summers were spent floating around the pool and listening to music all day long! Nowadays, I don’t do as much floating (and I use a lot more SPF – young Amy fail), but I still make it a point to get to the pool as much as possible! If you have access to a lake and/or a boat, you are bound to have an amazing summer!
Go to a drive in movie theater
If you’re not from the country, you may have no idea what I’m talking about here. I grew up in a small town where there wasn’t a whole lot to do. One of the things we did do a lot during the summer is go to a drive in movie theater. You literally drive your car into a big parking lot and park it facing a huge screen. Then, you can either sit inside your car and watch the movie as you listen to it on a specific radio station or you can bring lawn chairs or a blanket! We did this so many times when I was younger. Just make sure to bring bug spray and some warmer clothes for when it cools down!
Have a water balloon fight
Everyone needs to act like a kid every now and again, right? It does take a little work to get the water balloons ready, but it is so worth it in the end after everyone is laughing and having the best time! I can’t wait to do this this summer!
Try something new!
And last, but not least don’t be afraid to try something new! It can be as simple as a new hairstyle or a new workout routine at the gym. Or maybe you’re trying to make time for reading every day (on my lis!). Summer is the perfect time to try something new!
What summer activity are you looking forward to the most?
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great week!
