Hello, everyone! I hope your week is going well! I feel like I’m still trying to recover from the break and craziness of last week. It was so nice to have a few days off, but we always try to squeeze so much into such a small amount of time. This was definitely the case last week when we went back to Ohio. And all of the craziness around Black Friday and Cyber Monday (and lack of sleep) is finally catching up to me! I’ll be looking forward to this weekend when I can finally get caught back up on my sleep!
Today, I’m sharing with you my tips for staying organized. Organization has always been something that comes naturally to me, and it is also important to me. I know that some people will say they are organized in certain aspects of their lives, but not in others. For me, I seem to be pretty organized in almost all parts of my life..right now! I can see how that could change in the future, though. Since I’m a teacher, organization is something that is super important every day, hour, minute, second…you get the picture. If I can’t find the right materials or if I don’t have everything prepared for a lesson, it’ll all just fall apart. I am also a very clean and organized person at home. Cleaning relieves stress for me, and I love the feeling of having everything in its place. I guess you could say that sometimes I get a little too obsessed with being organized, but it has really only helped me in the past!
Since I’ve always been an organizational crazy person, I’ve tried about every organizational strategy you could think of! Today, I’m excited to share with y’all my 3 tried and true tips for staying organized.
1. Make lists
This is the one thing that helps me more than anything else! I am obsessed with making lists. I always feel like if I don’t write something down, I will forget it. I make my lists electronically on my computer, on my phone, on paper, on sticky notes…you name it! I actually prefer the physical lists the best. For me, there’s something so exciting about being able to physically cross something off of a list. It really makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something! Ha! Okay, maybe I’m crazy, but I can’t be the only one out there that loves crossing things off lists!
This is something that ends up being really important when your lists get too long! I always have a million and one things I want to get done, so it’s really crucial for me to decide which ones are the most important. Normally, I go through and mark which ones are time sensitive. If we don’t have anymore bread, and we need it for tomorrow, that will obviously get put to the top of the list (or I’ll just get creative with lunch – ha!).
3. Set short term and long term plans
After I have my lists (and lists and lists and lists), I like to look at what I will need to accomplish the things I have written. I know some tasks will take longer than others, but if I don’t break it down, I end up getting frustrated when that one thing has been on my list for weeks. For me, it helps to categorize my tasks and break them down into parts (i.e. create another list – lol). Then, I can feel more accomplished when I am able to complete part of a task instead of just waiting until I complete the whole task to get that feeling.
